According to reports from GIVEMESPORT, Manchester United is closely monitoring Bologna and Dutch striker Joshua Zirkee, who has been enjoying a successful season in Serie A. His standout performances have garnered attention from top clubs, including Manchester United and Arsenal, both of whom are in the market for a new center forward.
Manchester United’s striker position has been plagued by a lack of depth this season, with Erik ten Hag having only two natural strikers at his disposal in Anthony Martial and Rasmus Hojlund. Martial has struggled with injuries and inconsistency, while Hojlund’s progress was halted by an injury just as he was hitting form.
While United has been linked with high-profile strikers like Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen, financial constraints and concerns about disrupting Hojlund’s development may hinder moves for these players. In contrast, Joshua Zirkee presents a more affordable and realistic option. His role would likely be rotational, providing healthy competition that could propel Hojlund to greater heights.
Zirkee initially faced challenges upon joining Bologna last year but has since flourished, particularly this season as the team contends for a Champions League spot. He has contributed significantly with 11 goals and 6 assists across all competitions, with ten of those goals coming in the league.
Scouts from Manchester United reportedly observed Zirkee in action as he converted a penalty in Bologna’s crucial 2-1 victory over Atalanta. Despite being under contract with Bologna until 2026, the club values him at over 60 million euros. Additionally, Bayern Munich, his former club, holds a 40 million euro buy-back clause, indicating their interest in potentially reacquiring him in the future.
