Manchester United have held initial talks over a new contract for Kobbie Mainoo, according to Fabrizio Romano.The 2022 FA Youth Cup winner has made the leap to the Manchester United first team this season with 13 appearances so far. It would have been even more if not for an injury which caused him to miss the first three months of the season.

And just like Alejandro Garnacho a year ago, who penned a new deal until 2028, Manchester United want to give Kobbie Mainoo a new deal.A new contract will include an improved salary to reflect his importance to the first team.

Kobbie Mainoo tipped for new contractAccording to Fabrizio Romano via his YouTube channel, Kobbie Mainoo is being lined up for a new Manchester United contract.Romano explains: “They are already preparing a new deal for Kobbie. It is not an urgent situation. Man United are not forced to do it as soon as possible, but they want to do it this year in 2024.“They want Kobbie to be one of the faces of the project for present and future. An important talent with an important salary. There will be a rise in terms of salary, they want to make him feel important.”

Romano added that there have been early talks already, and is confident an extension will be agreed.He commented: “From what I’m hearing, initial discussions with the player’s camp, his agents already took place, positive exchanges, positive conversations, because Kobbie is very happy at Manchester United.”

Kobbie Mainoo’s current dealKobbie Mainoo has signed contracts with Manchester United in two successive years.He penned his first professional deal in summer 2022 after turning 17, and then signed a long-term deal last February, which runs until June 2027.
