BREAKING NEWS: Rasmus Hojlund explains the meaning behind his guitar celebration during Man Utd win and why he did it

Rasmus Hojlund opened up on his unusual goal celebration following Manchester United’s win against West Ham.United eased to a 3-0 Premier League win against West Ham on Sunday, a result that saw them leapfrog the Hammers into sixth place in the table.Hojlund opened the scoring midway through the first half with a well-taken low drive into the bottom corner.Alejandro Garnacho doubled the advantage early in the second period when his strike deflected past Alphonse Areola, before the 19-year-old wrapped up the victory with a scuffed finish from close range.

Hojlund celebrated his goal in comical fashion. On his 21st birthday, the Danish striker played the air guitar with his leg to the amusement of teammates and supporters alike.Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, the youngster explained the story behind the celebration.”I spoke about doing a celebration for my friends,” he said. “They told me to do the guitar back in the summer, and I hadn’t done it yet, so today was the day.”

Hojlund endured a tough start to life in the Premier League, but he certainly has plenty to be cheerful about now. After failing to score in his first 14 league outings for United, the striker has now scored in four consecutive league games. At 21 years old, Hojlund is the youngest United player to ever achieve that feat.

The Denmark international has now scored 10 goals in 28 games in all competitions since completing a £72 million move from Atalanta last summer.Hojlund’s two-goal teammate Garnacho also produced an eye-catching celebration. The Argentine winger was recently criticised by former United attacker Angel Di Maria for copying Cristiano Ronaldo’s celebrations, so naturally he performed his idol’s iconic ‘ad board’ celebration. When asked about his latest Ronaldo tribute, Garnacho told Sky Sports: “I’m very happy because I scored two goals. The celebration is… an inspiration.”

Next up for United is a potentially tricky trip Birmingham next Sunday to face Aston Villa.
