Speaking ahead of the game, Roy Keane explained his belief that Højlund is not showing the skills and desire required to be a striker for United and that he’s not going to keep waiting for success

It’s also down to the players around him, the more experienced ones that are used to the Premier League, I don’t see that desire in them.”

Højlund’s goals provided him the perfect response to Keane’s comments, with the Danish striker going clear as United’s top goalscorer for the season.He now has goals in back-to-back Premier League fixtures for the first time, having also scored on his last appearance for Aston Villa.

“There’s been a lot of talk about me not scoring in the Premier League, but I’ve always believed in my ability, and my teammates and coach have always done that as well,” he told Premier League Productions after the game.

“They should stop criticising our players. We are suffering a lot “
