Manchester United reportedly have a plan in place in the event that Mason Greenwood stays at the club.Greenwood has not represented United in 18 months after he was charged with attempted rape, assault and controlling behaviour.In February, the charges against the 21-year-old were dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service.Since then, all eyes have been focused on whether Greenwood will play for United again.
It was widely reported that the Old Trafford club were conducting their own internal investigation on the matter and that a decision would be made before the 23/24 season gets underway.However, on Friday, it was revealed by The Guardian that United will delay the decision as they want to consult their women’s team players who are currently playing in the 2023 Women’s World Cup.According to The Athletic, United have a plan in place in preparation that Greenwood is allowed back into the first-team squad.
The report claims that the club have discussed a phased process that would see Greenwood receive counselling, as well as exposing him to a television interview in which he could be asked about the events that have occurred.Ultimately, the decision will be made by United’s chief executive Richard Arnold based on a report carried out by other executives within the club.
During the club’s pre-season tour in the United States, manager Erik ten Hag was asked about Greenwood’s future.He said: “It’s a club decision. Of course I have said my ideas and opinions but it’s a club decision. We all have to accept that.
