The final game of Manchester United’s preseason tour of the United States will take place on Sunday against Borussia Dortmund in Las Vegas.
After losing promising prodigy Kobbie Mainoo to injury, Manchester United will move quickly to recruit Sofyan Amrabat of Fiorentina as their primary defensive midfielder. The Carrington academy graduate made significant progress during preseason, but the possibility of a breakout season has been put on hold as he took a terrible knock to the ankle during Houston’s 2-0 loss to Real Madrid.
With the addition of Hojlund, Mason Mount, and Andre Onana, United’s summer spending will total £179 million.
According to Fabrizio Romano, United chiefs are going to begin work on the arrival of a new holding midfielder and centre-back now they have a deal for Hojlund in place.
There is every chance that both will be totally dependent on player sales as United have only raised £22m from departures so far this window.
A host of stars including the likes of Fred, Harry Maguire, Dean Henderson, Donny van de Beek and Anthony Martial are believed to be up for grabs.
And should United generate the funds, Fiorentina lynchpin Sofyan Amrabat is the man in their crosshairs.
That said, United’s interest in the player has been somewhat exaggerated in Italy where there are suggestions a deal could be imminent.
United’s desire to sign Amrabat is now expected to intensify following Kobbie Mainoo’s ankle injury.
The Morocco international is available for around £25m-£30m with United currently the only club actively in the race for his signature.
At the back, a new arrival will hinge on the departure of Maguire who still looks to be no closer to the exit door.
West Ham have seen a £20m bid rebuffed for the England international centre-back but he could now remain at United as they’re yet to receive a worthwhile offer.
To add to that, United’s top two defensive targets have now agreed deals to join other clubs meaning they would have to go back to the drawing board if they did want to strengthen in that department.
Kim Min-jae has joined Bayern Munich from Napoli while Axel Disasi is on his way to Chelsea in a £38m switch.
