Man United are expected to prioritise a world-class striker this summer.
Erik ten Hag has given the ‘go ahead’ for Manchester United to sign Goncalo Ramos this summer in a deal that could be worth £88million, according to reports.
Ramos has emerged as one of Europe’s most promising forwards this season, his 24 goals more than sufficient in stepping into the boots of Darwin Nunez at Benfica followin the Uruguayan’s move to Liverpool last summer. The 21-year-old’s profile on the world stage was catapulted after he replaced Cristiano Ronaldo in the starting line-up for Portugal to score a hat-trick against Switzerland in the World Cup last-16.
United are expected to prioritise the signing of a world-class forward this summer as Ten Hag builds a squad fit for a Premier League title challenge, and Spanish outlet AS reports that the Dutchman will sanction a move for Ramos, who could cost up to €100million (around £88million)
The report goes on to suggest that a successful move for the Benfica star would depend on the ownership situation surrounding the club, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani both submitting second offers last month.
The Manchester Evening News understands Ten Hag has made Tottenham’s Harry Kane his priority signing, while the club are also monitoring Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, Ajax’s Mohammed Kudus, Frankfurt striker Randal Kolo Muani and Rasmus Højlund of Atalanta as well as Benfica star Ramos.
Elsewhere, Football Insider reports that Ten Hag has told Axel Tuanzebe he is free to find a new club when his contract ends this summer as part of a huge clearout.
Tuanzebe is currently on loan at Stoke City, joining the Championship outfit in January after recovering from a long-term injury. The 25-year-old has played four times for the Potters since making the move.
United have an option to extend his contract for a further year, but will instead show him the exit door permanently, with the report also naming Anthony Martial, Donny Van de Beek, Scott McTominay, Dean Henderson, Brandon Williams and Harry Maguire as potential departures.
