Mason Greenwood garners attention from European powerhouses but may return to the Premier League.
While Manchester United remains open to Greenwood’s return, new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe hints at his potential future at Old Trafford, stressing that no final decision has been reached.
The 22-year-old has showcased his prowess on loan at La Liga outfit Getafe, tallying six goals and five assists in 24 appearances this season.
Discussions with United are anticipated post-season, yet Greenwood reportedly hesitates to return to Manchester, showing a preference to continue his stint in Spain. Getafe appears unable to meet his valuation, prompting interest from the likes of Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.
In addition to Spanish interest, transfer pundit Fabrizio Romano suggests several Premier League clubs are monitoring Greenwood’s situation.
“Many clubs in Spain, but in England there is also some interest,” Romano informed The United Stand.
Despite being under contract until 2025, Romano believes United are inclined to capitalize on his potential departure this summer.
“I don’t see Mason Greenwood staying at the club,” Romano remarked.
Ratcliffe emphasizes that the decision regarding Greenwood’s future aligns with the club’s values, considering the unique circumstances surrounding young players.
“You are dealing with young people who have not always been brought up in the best circumstances, who have a lot of money and they don’t always have the guidance they should have,” Ratcliffe stated. “What we need to do when we have issues like that is understand real effects, not the hype. Then we need to make a fair decision in the light of the club’s values.”
England manager Gareth Southgate confirms Greenwood’s exclusion from the EURO 2024 squad but leaves the door open for future call-ups.
