Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba is contesting a four-year ban from football imposed on him following a doping investigation.

Pogba, now 30 years old, was provisionally suspended in September after testing revealed elevated levels of testosterone in his system.

Italy’s National Anti-Doping Tribunal (TNA) has accepted the request of the Anti-Doping Prosecutor’s Office to implement a four-year ban retroactively from the time of his initial suspension, effectively barring Pogba from playing until August 2027.

Expressing his dismay over the ban, Pogba released a statement asserting the decision’s inaccuracy and his intention to appeal. He expressed deep disappointment, stating that his entire professional career achievements have been unjustly undermined. Pogba emphasized his commitment to fair play and denied any deliberate violation of anti-doping regulations.

Pogba’s statement read: “I have today been informed of the Tribunale Nazionale Antidoping’s decision and believe that the verdict is incorrect. I am sad, shocked, and heartbroken that everything I have built in my professional playing career has been taken away from me. When I am free of legal restrictions, the full story will become clear, but I have never knowingly or deliberately taken any supplements that violate anti-doping regulations.”

Asserting his integrity, Pogba emphasized his dedication to fair competition, stating, “As a professional athlete, I would never do anything to enhance my performance by using banned substances and have never disrespected or cheated fellow athletes and supporters of any of the teams I have played for, or against.”

Concluding his statement, Pogba announced his intention to challenge the ban before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

During his tenure at Manchester United, Pogba participated in 233 matches, contributing to the team’s victories in the Europa League and Carabao Cup.
