Manchester United ‘ready to sell’ Anthony Martial with three options available

Manchester United are reportedly ready to sell Anthony Martial, with three options available to Erik ten Hag.

Martial moved to Old Trafford from Monaco back in 2015 for a reported fee of £38.5million, but his United career has been hampered by injuries.

He got a decent run in the side last season, following the acrimonious departure of Cristiano Ronaldo and Wout Weghorst’s struggles in front of goal.

However, the 27-year-old scored just nine goals in 29 appearances across all competitions, forcing Ten Hag into the transfer market over the summer.

Along came Rasmus Hojlund, who joined from Atalanta, and the 20-year-old Dane has already displaced Martial’s in the first-team, with the Frenchman reportedly unhappy playing a back-up role at United.

That’s according to Football Insider, who claim that the club feel as though now is the right time to cut ties with the striker.

Martial is out of contract at the end of the campaign and the Red Devils may opt to extend his deal by an extra 12 months in order to avoid losing him for free.

However, the publication states that Martial could also be sold in the upcoming January window or next summer, with Barcelona thought to be among the clubs interested in his signature.

It was around this time last year that Martial was involved in a training ground ‘bust-up’ with academy graduate Dan Gore, which threatened to give Ten Hag further headaches following the Ronaldo saga.

According to the Daily Mirror, Gore clattered into Martial with “a robust tackle” which sparked a confrontation between the players.

Martial is said to have “lashed out” at the teenager who stood his ground. The forward has subsequently apologised for his involvement in the incident.
