Manchester United have reportedly identified two players they would like to sign before the end of the summer transfer window.
Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has identified his next two transfer targets, according to reports. The Dutchman has decided upon Sofyan Amrabat and Jean-Clair Todibo as the central midfielder and centre-back he would attempt to sign if he is able to shift some players out of the club.
United have made three major signings so far this summer. Mason Mount, Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund have joined for combined fees of around £180million.Jonny Evans has also re-signed on a short-term deal to help out in defence. Much of United’s remaining business will depend on whether they are able to agree deals with other clubs to sell players Ten Hag no longer wants.
West Ham have attempted to sign former captain Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay. An improved bid of £30m was lodged by the Hammers for Maguire after their initial offer was rejected last month.
The east London club have bid the same amount for McTominay, although that has been rejected. United are also trying to find new clubs for Fred and Donny van de Beek. The Independent claims the midfielder identified to come in as a replacement is Fiorentina’s Amrabat. Fiorentina appear open to selling the Morocco star for a fee of around £26m
Amrabat has entered the final year of his contract, although Fiorentina have the added protection of an option to trigger a further 12 months onto his deal. The 26-year-old was strongly linked with Barcelona earlier this year after his World Cup heroics but it appears United are in pole position if they can sell players their end.
If a move for Amrabat falls through, the same report claims United may pursue Southampton’s Romeo Lavia. Saints want £50m for the teenager and Liverpool have already seen three bids rejected, the latest at £45m.
The Independent also claims that if United can sell four players and secure a midfield signing, they would look to sign a centre-back to replace Maguire. Nice’s French defender Todibo is the most admired option.Todibo spent time at Barcelona between 2019 and 2021 but made just five first-team appearances. He has had two strong seasons with Nice in Ligue 1 and attracted interest from the Red Devils. If United are unable to move on the players they wish, it is claimed an extension to Evans’ short-term contract cannot be ruled out. The 35-year-old left Leicester at the end of last season on a free transfer.
