David Ornstein gives insight into player Arsenal ‘really like’ and it would be a disaster for Man Utd

Arsenal are said to ‘really like’ a highly-rated European prospect who has been scouted by a number of clubs, including Manchester United, Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund.

 

Sverre Nypan, who became the youngest player in Rosenborg’s history back in 2022, when he featured against Jerv at 15 years and 322 days, has gone on to become a first-team regular at the Lerkendal Stadion.

 

In fact, after breaking multiple records at club level, the versatile attacking midfielder is being tracked by some of Europe’s elite after helping Rosenborg to fourth place in the Eliteserien with eight goals and seven assists.

A report from TeamTalk suggests Manchester United and Chelsea have held talks with Nypan’s agent, while Real Madrid, Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich have sent scouts to watch him play

Back in November, it was claimed that United had been ‘working to try and conclude a deal’ for the 17-year-old Norwegian.

 

And a month later, United were linked with a £10 million move in the January window, although it looks like they could face stiff competition from another Premier League club in Arsenal.

 

Speaking on The Athletic FC podcast, journalist David Ornstein gave an insight into Arsenal’s interest in Nypan.

 

“What Arsenal, like many clubs, will be doing is looking for young players for the future, some of the best in Europe. We’ve seen Tottenham doing it with the likes of Archie Gray and Bergvall, Arsenal doing it too,” said Ornstein.

 

“I speak to people across the game that, I don’t know if I get this pronunciation right, but (Sverre) Nypan, who is playing for Rosenberg, he’s coming through central midfielder, very highly thought of, and Arsenal really like him, but I’m sure others do as well.

 

“I don’t know of any movement to the developing transfer, but it just goes to show that you could see an Arsenal bringing some young players now that start to bed in for the future.

 

“And it’s not necessarily what everyone is going crazy about because these big names dominate the market, but it is often sensible and it’s within financial parameters that allow you to hopefully compete with your rivals going forward.”

 

Ornstein added: “I don’t expect Arsenal to be one of the most active participants in this market but the way this industry works, Arsenal always seem to be a topic of conversation in transfer windows.”

 

Nypan speaks about his future in new interview

 

The teenager recently opened up on his future during a chat with Norwegian outlet Nettavisen.

 

He said: “If you go to a slightly smaller club, but which is higher ranked than Rosenborg, there is no guarantee that you will get to play or do so. Going the long way does not mean that you will succeed anyway.

 

“Of course, it’s more difficult to break into a big team, but I don’t think it’s that easy no matter where you go.”

 

He added: “If a transfer is approaching or there is a club that seems very interesting, then we might go down and see what it is like there, and say hello to people. I’m not going to sign anywhere until I’ve been there and seen for myself. That goes without saying.”
