Manchester United have confirmed that Ruud van Nistelrooy, who returned to Old Trafford in the summer as Erik ten Hag’s assistant, has left the club.

His departure comes following the appointment of Ruben Amorim as United’s new head coach. The 39-year-old Portuguese manager has brought in his own coaching team, leading to a reshuffle at the club. Alongside van Nistelrooy, Ten Hag’s other assistant, Rene Hake, as well as goalkeeper coach Jelle ten Rouwelaar and performance analyst Pieter Morel, have also been let go to accommodate Amorim’s staff.

Van Nistelrooy had reportedly hoped to remain at United after a successful stint as caretaker manager, during which he led the team to an unbeaten four-game run following Ten Hag’s dismissal.

Now, *The Sun* reports that Van Nistelrooy is being considered for a managerial role at Burnley. The club may look to the 48-year-old as a potential replacement for current manager Scott Parker if the team’s form begins to falter.
