Former Manchester United stars Gary Neville and Roy Keane have delivered harsh criticism of the club’s recent transfer dealings, naming only Bruno Fernandes as a success in the past decade.

Speaking ahead of United’s Premier League match against Chelsea, Neville commented on the challenges facing new manager Ruben Amorim. Reflecting on United’s recruitment over the past ten years, he said, “Amorim has to get the best out of the players. The players need to take responsibility, but the club has signed a lot of players who were wanted elsewhere, and yet, when they arrived at United, they’ve deteriorated. Why is that?”

Neville noted that factors such as coaching, player attitudes, or the club environment could be contributing to this decline. “Whatever it is, it has to change. If he doesn’t change that, he’ll face the same fate as others before him,” he warned.

He singled out Fernandes as an exception: “In the last 10 years, Bruno Fernandes is the only player who’s come in and exceeded expectations. I can’t think of anyone else—correct me if I’m wrong.”

Keane added his own criticism, pointing to the team’s lack of resilience and work ethic. “This group doesn’t dig in. When things get tough, they go under,” he said. Keane stressed that dedication is non-negotiable, regardless of circumstances. “I don’t care if you’re playing in front of 80,000 or 80 people—you have to run. And this team doesn’t run, which is a huge problem.”

Amorim is set to officially take over on November 11, with his debut match against Ipswich Town on November 24.
