Manchester City have reportedly initiated contact with Viktor Gyokeres regarding a potential transfer, as Real Madrid’s interest in Erling Haaland intensifies with a £125 million release clause.
Gyokeres is currently one of Europe’s most sought-after forwards. Having netted 56 goals across the last two seasons and already impressing this term, he’s established himself among the world’s top goalscorers, attracting interest from elite clubs globally.
City, however, appear to be in the lead for his signature. While they currently have Erling Haaland—one of the world’s best strikers—there’s no certainty he’ll stay long-term. According to *Sky Sport Switzerland*, Real Madrid is targeting Haaland for the 2025/26 season, and the player himself has shown a “clear desire” to make the move.
With a €150 million (£125 million) release clause, Real Madrid may find the path to securing Haaland smoother than expected. Meanwhile, City has reportedly already made contact with Gyokeres’ representatives, and Director of Football Hugo Viana has prioritized his signing as a replacement, with Gyokeres available at a lower fee of around €100 million (£83 million).
Gyokeres could potentially reunite with his Sporting CP manager, Ruben Amorim, at City. Recent reports indicate Amorim is a top candidate to succeed Pep Guardiola, whose contract with City ends this season. Viana, who recently joined City from Sporting, is not only spearheading the pursuit of Gyokeres but may also be considering Amorim to lead City’s future.
**Man City’s La Liga Pursuits: Potential New Stars**
While Haaland’s future may lead him to La Liga, City is eyeing La Liga talent as well. They’re exploring a move for Real Madrid’s Arda Guler as a potential option for an aging Kevin De Bruyne. Additionally, Barcelona’s Raphinha, following stellar Champions League performances, is on City’s radar for a possible £83 million transfer.
However, City may face competition from Brighton for Andrija Maksimovic, a young prospect from Red Star Belgrade, who reportedly sees Brighton as a better fit at this stage.
