Since hanging up his boots, Shearer has transitioned into punditry, frequently gracing the screens of BBC as an astute commentator. During a recent segment on The Rest Is Football podcast, Shearer singled out two Manchester United players whom he believes would frustrate him immensely if he shared the pitch with them.
Expressing his disdain for wingers who habitually cut inside onto their favored foot instead of delivering crosses, Shearer specifically targeted Antony and Garnacho as culprits of this irksome tendency.
He elaborated, stating, “That would do my nut in playing for Man Utd with those two, Antony and Garnacho, who keep doing that all the time.”
Shearer’s criticism of Antony is not newfound, as he had previously voiced his frustration on Match of the Day, highlighting the Brazilian winger’s predictable preference for cutting inside onto his left foot, thereby enabling defenders to anticipate and counter his moves effectively.
While Shearer’s pet peeve centers on wingers’ reluctance to deliver crosses, former Manchester City defender Micah Richards chimed in with his own annoyance: midfielders opting for backward passes when opportunities to advance the play forward present themselves.
