According to a recent report, Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood has reached a decision regarding his next steps, in response to remarks made by Sir Jim Ratcliffe.Greenwood, presently on loan at La Liga outfit Getafe, departed Old Trafford following an internal investigation by United, culminating in a mutual agreement for his departure.
This decision followed his suspension by United in January 2022, consequent to allegations of rape and assault, though the charges were later dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service due to a lack of evidence.
With his contract set to expire in 2025, Greenwood’s loan to Getafe extends until the end of the current season, placing him in the final year of his deal once the subsequent summer transfer window commences. In discussions with The Athletic, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the new minority owner of United through INEOS, emphasized the necessity for the club to reassess Greenwood’s future under their management of football operations.
Ratcliffe stressed the importance of evaluating facts over sensationalism and making decisions based on the club’s values, particularly concerning the player’s character and potential contribution to the team.Addressing the po
ssibility of Greenwood’s return to United, Ratcliffe emphasized a principled approach to such decisions, considering the player’s suitability and moral standing.Despite interest from other clubs like Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, and Real Madrid, reports suggest that Greenwood would prefer to remain at United if given the opportunity.
Throughout his tenure at Getafe this season, Greenwood has showcased his abilities, tallying five goals and five assists in 21 La Liga appearances.
