Ahead of this weekend’s Premier League clash against Fulham, a standout talent from Manchester United’s academy graced the first-team training ground.Harry Amass, aged 16, has been instrumental for Adam Lawrence’s U18s squad this season, boasting an impressive record of 12 wins in their last 14 Premier League North matches.
The young left-back, recruited from Watford last summer, earned a call-up to first-team training in preparation for the recent match against Aston Villa. With Luke Shaw sidelined due to a significant leg injury, Amass found himself in the spotlight once more for the upcoming game against Fulham.
Joining him for Thursday’s session at Carrington were Habeeb Ogunneye and James Nolan. United’s shortage of options in the left-back position is glaring, with Shaw expected to miss the remainder of the season after sustaining an injury during the recent Premier League victory over Luton.
Furthermore, Tyrell Malacia remains sidelined with a long-term injury, and Sergio Reguilon’s loan deal was terminated in January. While Victor Lindelof and Diogo Dalot have deputized in the past, Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s absence exacerbates the lack of options at right-back.
Amass has showcased his talent for United’s U18s this season, earning praise on social media with highlight reels of his performances circulating. Although he is yet to make his senior debut, he experienced the thrill of being named on the bench for Watford’s FA Cup third-round encounter against Reading last season.
Reflecting on the experience, Amass remarked, “The first-team experience was surreal. You’re playing with footballers you see on TV. I had a couple of training sessions with them and got used to it, and being on the bench and seeing the fans was really good.”
