Martinelli recounts attending four trials at Manchester United, spanning from ages 13 to 16, where he spent approximately 15 days each time training with the club. Despite rubbing shoulders with the likes of Brandon Williams during a friendly match against Lincoln City, United ultimately opted not to sign him.

Reflecting on his experiences, Martinelli shared anecdotes of interactions with United’s players, including a memorable encounter with Paul Pogba, whom he described as “super humble.” These trials played a crucial role in Martinelli’s development, exposing him to the intricacies of English football and the demands of elite-level competition.However, United’s decision not to pursue Martinelli stemmed from concerns over his physicality, as documented by the Manchester Evening News.

Despite his evident talent, Martinelli struggled to assert himself against physically imposing defenders, leading United to pass on the opportunity to sign him.In a recent interview with ESPN, Martinelli confessed to feeling “anxious” during his trials at United, harboring hopes of securing a spot at a club of such stature.

Nevertheless, fate intervened, leading him to Arsenal, where he has flourished and made over 100 appearances for the Gunners while also earning nine caps for his national team.
