Manchester United ready to fork out €75 million to beat Barcelona to 23-year-old Iberian ace

Barcelona target Diogo Costa being eyed for €75 million by Manchester United

Manchester United are willing to pay €75 million to acquire the services of FC Porto shot-stopper and Barcelona target Diogo Costa, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes.net.

The Red Devils are keeping tabs on the Portugal international. To that end, the Old Trafford side are also prepared to splash the cash on the promising goalkeeper in the upcoming transfer window.

However, the Manchester-based club are not the only ones eyeing the 23-year-old. The Blaugrana also have him on their radar. Serie A giants Juventus are in the race to get hold of his signature as well.

At the moment, David de Gea is the number one at United. However, the Spaniard’s future at Red Devils is uncertain. The 32-year-old is being linked with a move away from the Old Trafford side, with Costa being his replacement.

The Portugal international has been impressive for Porto in the current campaign. This season, the 23-year-old’s performances, especially in the Champions League, have caught a lot of people’s attention.

As things stand, Barcelona have Marc-Andre ter Stegen in their ranks. The Germany international has been the number one at the La Liga outfit for some time now.

In the 2022/23 campaign, the 31-year-old has kept 26 clean sheets in 37 league appearances.

As for United, apart from De Gea, Erik ten Hag does not have a lot of options at his disposal. We have a promising talent in Dean Henderson, but he spent the season on loan at Nottingham Forest.

On the bench, the gaffer can call upon Tom Heaton and Jack Butland. But with all due respect, the English duo are not up to the Red Devils’ standards.

De Gea has made a number of errors in goal in the current campaign. The 32-year-old leaves a lot to be desired with the ball at his feet as well. Thus, we could do with someone like Costa in the team. But will we pip Barcelona to his signature? Only time will tell.
