Manchester United star Alejandro Garnacho, who has a peculiar dislike for Spanish giants FC Barcelona, appeared to poke fun at them. After carrying a one-goal lead into the second leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final matchup against Real Madrid at home, Barcelona won’t want to revisit Wednesday night anytime soon.
The second half of the game at the Spotify Camp Nou saw them utterly surrender their narrow 1-0 advantage, with Karim Benzema scoring his second hat-trick in a space of just few days. Until Vinicius Junior scored in stoppage time of the first half, Xavi’s team appeared to be in a rather comfortable position. From that point on, they were helpless to react as the Los Blancos walked over them in the final.

Barcelona struggled to protect or inflate their lead from the first leg, as the scoreboard was unaffected by Gavi’s fights with his opponents, and Ronald Araujo’s shoving Vinicius over after being embarrassed by the Brazilian’s skill. After the game, the Brazilian appeared to rub more salt on the Catalans’ wounds, as he used the Spanish word ‘remontada,’ which has come to be associated with the Catalan side since their famous 6-1 win over PSG in the Champions League in 2017, in a post on Instagram that read, “Comeback and final”.
Alejandro Garnacho, who is currently out injured said that the Los Blancos’ comeback triumph over Barcelona was routine for them in a comment under Vinicius Junior’s Instagram photo. He replied to the Brazilian winger’s post, with a one-word comment, “normal” and a couple of laughing emojis.
Alejandro Garnacho doesn’t seem to have any love or respect for Barcelona other than his affection for their legendary all-time topscorer Lionel Messi, who also happens to be the 18-year-old’s fellow countryman and future Argentina national teammate.
Yet, since Alejandro Garnacho played Messi’s former team, the United boy has been able to engage himself into a running dispute with the Spanish league leaders. That was after two thrilling games between United and Barca that occurred in the Europa League back in February, with the Red Devils winning the play-off game to advance to the round of 16.
Garnacho mocked Pedri and imitated the young Spaniard’s goggles celebration to celebrate his team’s triumph, which wasn’t warmly received. Barca centre-back Araujo even brought up the event months later, saying the Argentina star ought to have been more humble and calm.
Barcelona’s players will likely not think too highly of the most recent incident either, and they will be looking forward to facing Alejandro Garnacho again soon. Meanwhile, they are now out of the Europa League as well as the Copa del Rey. While Xavi’s men have already won a trophy this season in the Spanish Super Cup, defeating Real Madrid in the final, they also have the La Liga to win as they currently lead the standings by 12 points.
