Manchester United are ready to resume their Premier League charge against Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon (4.30pm) as several important matters continue to rumble on away from the pitch – but claiming three points is all that matters to Erik ten Hag and his players.
United have one or two injury concerns for their trip to Newcastle with Marcus Rashford among them after picking up a knock before the international break. Ten Hag does hope to have the England forward available, though, after providing an update in his pre-match press conference.
With one eye on the summer transfer window, meanwhile, Harry Kane is the prime target for Ten Hag in his search for a new striker. United also want to bring in another midfielder, while they are open to selling Harry Maguire, Alex Telles and Anthony Martial.
United might well be under fresh ownership from next season, too, after the Glazer family made their shares available. Offers headed up by Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani have taken centre stage, but there are other interested takeover parties.
United ‘retain interest’ in Joao Felix
United are said to still hold an interest in Chelsea striker Joao Felix.
The attacker is on loan at Stamford Bridge from Atletico Madrid but could leave his parent club in the summer amid a fragile relationship with boss Diego Simeone.
Mundo Deportivo now claims United could look to make Felix a key player in Erik ten Hag’s rebuild for future years.
The Portugal hero would not come cheap, though, with his contract at Atletico running until 2027.
United ‘to go in for Ramos’
United are reportedly to explore a bid for Benfica forward Goncalo Ramos.
The Portugal star, who scored a hat-trick in the World Cup last-16, is admired by Erik ten Hag.
Now a report says United could pull together a bid worth £88m should top target Harry Kane fail to be captured.
Sunderland boss explains why he benched Amad
Tony Mowbray has detailed why United loanee Amad started on the bench in Sunderland’s goalless draw with Championship leaders Burnley on Friday.
“Amad arrived at the hotel at 7pm on Thursday night. He came straight from Manchester when his flight got in.
“He hasn’t trained with anybody all week, so we had no idea what his physical condition is. We would obviously want to start with Amad, but we couldn’t. It would have been the wrong thing to do.”
Ten Hag explains how Fernandes is leading United ‘by example’
Erik ten Hag has outlined how Bruno Fernandes leads the United squad “by example”.
Fernandes has captained the side for the majority of the season, with the midfielder missing just two matches all season.
Speaking to club media, Ten Hag said:
“He is fantastic. He has [had] a fantastic season so far and firstly he is an example He gives so much energy to the team, but he is taking so much responsibility and pushing the team, but often by example. Not only by coaching, by example and he is so good in transitional moments. Of course, in the final third, he is continually a threat. In possession, he is always available to receive the ball. He is always an option and almost every time, he has the right solution. I am so happy with Bruno in my team, and I think he’s made a massive improvement during the season, and I hope he can continue this.”
Spurs ‘have no intention of selling to United or City’
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy reportedly has no intention of selling to either United or City.
Erik ten Hag’s side are keen on signing Spurs talisman Harry Kane in the summer, while the Blues were interested in recruiting the England captain two years ago.
However, the Mail have reported Levy still regrets selling Kyle Walker to City in 2017.

Scholes would ‘hate to see’ McTominay leave
Former United midfielder Paul Scholes has admitted he’d ‘hate’ to see Scott McTominay leave the Reds amid transfer links with Newcastle.
Speaking on the Webby and O’Neill YouTube channel, he said: “He’s done great and will come back with loads of confidence. He’s a really talented player, he’s a really good player. He’s got on with his job and he’s a top class player Scott. It’s a big few weeks for Scott with rumours about him leaving the club. A lot of rumours about Newcastle.
“I hate to see homegrown talent leaving the club to be honest with you but sometimes it has to happen. If he can come into this team and show that Casemiro isn’t missed, hopefully he will still be with us next year.”
Roma ‘considering move for De Gea’
According to Fichajes, Roma are considering a move for United goalkeeper David de Gea.
The 32-year-old Spaniard, who is out of contract in the summer, has made 529 appearances for the Reds.
