Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford FINALLY told Rio Ferdinand the true meaning behind his trademark celebration

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has revealed that Marcus Rashford has told him the true meaning behind his trademark celebration after his explosive goalscoring form.

Rashford has been in the form of his life at Old Trafford and thrived under United boss Erik ten Hag this season, with the Red Devils challenging for a top-four finish.

The 25-year-old United forward has scored an impressive 17 times in 18 matches since representing England at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Rashford has been spotted celebrating by standing still and holding his index finger to his temple, which has since been done by other players.

The meaning behind his symbolic goalscoring celebration remained unknown, but it was believed to be a reference to Rashford’s mental health struggles last season.

“I was struggling at times with more mental things,” Rashford said in 2022.

“Too often last season, I wasn’t in the right headspace for games.”

Ferdinand paid a visit to Carrington on Monday and watched one of the club’s training sessions ahead of United’s second-leg Europa League tie against Barcelona.

During his time at United’s training complex, Ferdinand said he spoke with Rashford during his visit and the England star candidly opened up about his celebration.

According to Ferdinand, Rashford’s celebration is “simple” in its meaning as the United star wants to highlight “mentality” as the main message to take away.

Speaking on his VIBE with FIVE podcast, Ferdinand said: “Rashford, I found out today, by the way, I went to Carrington today to interview Bruno [Fernandes], it was good.

“I saw [long-serving receptionist] Kath [Phipps], been there 56 years the lady! Ridiculous!

“But the celebration, it’s mentality. Nice, innit. Simple. But it’s just travelled massively.

“Everyone ‘round the world is doing it now. All the young kids scoring goals, that’s the impact Rashford has had.”
