Atalanta wonderkid Rasmus Hojlund has been linked with a move to Manchester United this summer – and his Instagram account may contain a ‘clue’ to a possible transfer.
The Denmark international, who smashed in five goals in two matches during the most recent international break in March, has eight goals to his name in his first season in Serie A.
The 20-year-old signed from Austrian side SK Sturm Graz last summer, and has made a strong impression in Italian football.
In January, he was praised by club manager Gian Piero Gasperini after scoring against Spezia (quotes via Foot Italia): “He has extraordinary margins. The evolution he’s had in recent months… he had to get into matches right away – he’s 19.
“He’s incredibly generous, he has a desire to achieve results. Technically he has margins, in the air he can do well there too given his stature. He can be a top future striker.”
According to the Manchester Evening News, United boss Erik ten Hag has held ‘video calls’ with the striker in an attempt to convince him to join the club this summer. United are said to be targeting two strikers – a young player and one with more experience.
Now, a ‘clue’ on Hojlund’s Instagram account could help Ten Hag in his pursuit of the Danish forward.
Hojlund transfer ‘clue’ spotted
The 20-year-old follows 679 accounts at the time of writing – including several key members of the United first team squad.
As originally spotted by Twitter account UtdXclusive, Hojlund follows United stars Antony, Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, Lisandro Martinez, Bruno Fernandes and Raphael Varane on Instagram.
A deeper dive also shows that he follows Diogo Dalot, Casemiro and Alejandro Garnacho, as well as United’s official Instagram account.
While that may not necessarily mean he would be convinced to join United, he has already admitted in the past that he was a boyhood fan of the club.
He also follows transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, who has given an update on United’s pursuit of the €60 million-rated forward.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano said: “Both Chelsea and Manchester United have sent their scouts to follow Rasmus Hojlund recently. Chelsea know the player very well, so do Manchester United.”
