Victor Osimhen’s main barrier to joining for Manchester United, according to Fabrizio Romano, is about to be lifted.
Osimhen, a striker for Napoli, would prefer a transfer to the Premier League despite being wanted by Ligue 1 powerhouse Paris Saint-Germain, according to a recent article in the Mirror.
United is one of the teams that have been closely associated with the Nigerian international. Six months after Cristiano Ronaldo’s acrimonious exit, Erik ten Hag’s team is still searching for a long-term Cristiano Ronaldo replacement.
Osimhen, who scored 23 goals in Serie A to help Napoli win the Scudetto for the first time in 33 years this season, is reportedly the top striker on United’s shortlist, with Harry Kane also being considered.
Amid reports of United’s interest, there are claims that the Azzurri’s sporting director, Cristiano Giuntoli, is on the cusp of joining Juventus this summer.
The 51-year-old executive has been cited as one of the key architects behind Napoli’s Serie A success and his departure could make it easier for United to sign Osimhen, as well as his teammate Kim Min-jae.
Transfer guru Romano claimed that Giuntoli had reached an agreement to become Juventus’ sporting director.
The master negotiator’s potential departure could be a major boost in United’s pursuit of Osimhen and Kim. Giuntoli is a persuasive figure, having ‘locked’ Osimhen inside a hotel to convince him to join the Serie A side and turn down a move to Liverpool back in 2020.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano said: “At Juventus, it’s still not clear who’s going to be the director. Of course, Cristiano Giuntoli is the big favourite.
“He has an agreement with Juventus. Giuntoli is the man who built the Napoli project as director. He now has an agreement to join Juventus but he’s waiting on Napoli to give the green light […] and to let him go to Juventus.
“So at that moment, he would become the new director and the future of Dušan Vlahović and many other players would become more clear.”
