Ruben Amorim didn’t mince words when asked about Marcus Rashford’s absence from Manchester United’s lineup.
United endured their sixth Premier League loss under Amorim on Sunday, falling 3-1 to Brighton at Old Trafford.
Once again, Rashford was absent from the matchday squad, fueling speculation about an impending move away from the club.
Amorim was candid about the situation, revealing why Rashford has been omitted from recent games.
Last month, Rashford expressed to journalist Henry Winter that he was open to leaving his boyhood club for a new challenge, sparking rumors of a January transfer.
Following Sunday’s defeat, Amorim clarified that Rashford’s ongoing exclusion stems from this situation, with both the player and the manager agreeing that it’s best for him to stay away while determining his future.
“Rashford is not playing because I believe it’s not the best for the team right now,” Amorim told reporters after the Brighton match.
“It’s his decision. I don’t want to blame this tough period on Rashford’s absence. It’s a collective issue, not just about him.”
Rashford last played for United on December 12 in a Europa League match against Viktoria Plzen. Since then, he has appeared on the bench only once, as an unused substitute during a 2-0 loss to Newcastle United on December 30.
United have struggled without Rashford, winning only three of their nine matches since his last appearance.
Despite this, a departure from Old Trafford seems likely, with a move to a club outside the Premier League being the most probable outcome.
AC Milan are reportedly leading the race for the 27-year-old, with several European clubs monitoring the situation as the transfer window nears its close on February 3.
