Erik ten Hag’s immediate plans following his dismissal from Manchester United have been revealed.

On Monday afternoon, United issued an official statement confirming that Ten Hag had been relieved of his duties after more than two years at the club. The Dutch manager had faced mounting pressure regarding his future throughout the season, and the decision was finally made after United’s fourth Premier League defeat of the season to West Ham United.

According to *The Daily Mail*, Ten Hag plans to return to his property in Austria, where he intends to reflect on his last days at United and the challenges he faced over the past two and a half years.

During his 850-day tenure and 128 matches across all competitions, Ten Hag achieved 44 wins, 27 losses, and 14 draws. He also delivered two trophies to United: the 2023 Carabao Cup and last season’s FA Cup. However, reports suggest that Ten Hag anticipated his tenure would end this summer; he confided to close friends that he expected to be dismissed shortly after United’s FA Cup final victory over Manchester City.

INEOS had reportedly considered other managerial candidates over the summer, including England’s current manager, Thomas Tuchel, but ultimately chose to retain Ten Hag for the beginning of the 2024/25 season. Yet a poor run this season—with United securing only three wins in nine Premier League matches—led Sir Jim Ratcliffe and other members of the United board to decide it was time for a change.

Despite the circumstances, Ten Hag is said to be handling his departure well, especially as a contract signed over the summer reportedly secures him a £17.5 million payout.

Sporting CP’s Ruben Amorim is currently the frontrunner for the United managerial position, while former player Ruud van Nistelrooy is expected to serve as interim manager until a permanent appointment is made.
