Manuel Ugarte has hinted at his imminent transfer to Manchester United through a social media post, which has already caught the attention of a former United player. According to journalist Duncan Castles, United have agreed on a deal with PSG for the Uruguayan midfielder. The transfer is expected to be worth an initial €50 million, plus an additional €10 million in performance-based add-ons. Ugarte is set to travel to England for a medical soon.

Once completed, Ugarte will become United’s fifth signing of the summer, following Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Noussair Mazraoui, and Matthijs de Ligt. The 23-year-old fueled speculation about his move by posting a simple eyes emoji on social media, which quickly garnered 34,000 likes in under an hour. His international teammate and former United winger Facundo Pellistri responded to the post with his own emojis, including a red heart. Pellistri recently left United to join Greek side Panathinaikos.

Negotiations for Ugarte’s transfer were reportedly complex, with PSG initially demanding a fixed €60 million fee. This led United to briefly step back from the discussions, but they eventually re-engaged and agreed on a deal that includes add-ons. Additionally, PSG managed to secure a 10% sell-on clause as part of the agreement.

The deal for Ugarte was facilitated by United’s decision to sell Scott McTominay to Napoli for €30 million. McTominay’s move, pending the finalization of personal terms, marks the end of his 22-year association with Manchester United, where he progressed through the club’s academy and became a key first-team player under various managers, including Erik ten Hag.
