Fabrizio Romano recently provided an update on Manchester United’s full-back Tyrell Malacia, shedding light on the player’s situation.
Malacia has been absent from the United squad since the conclusion of last season, and his lack of activity on social media since July 2023 has drawn attention to his prolonged absence. According to Fussball News journalist Christopher Michel, Malacia is reportedly facing challenges concerning both his physical and mental health.
Transfer expert Romano has now revealed that Malacia is encountering significant difficulties, prompting United to plan to clarify the situation in the coming weeks or months. In an interview with the United Stand, Romano expressed his insights, stating, “It’s a really complicated moment for the boy. He’s really struggling. I think Manchester United will make some clarity in the next weeks or months to clarify what’s happening.”
The prolonged absence of Malacia has sparked speculation on social media platforms. Despite this, United officials confirmed Malacia’s presence at a team bonding dinner when SPORTbible sought comment on a previous story in March, indicating his continued integration with the squad.
However, United manager Erik ten Hag recently disclosed that he anticipates Malacia will remain sidelined for the remainder of the season due to injury. Despite Malacia’s return to training, ten Hag acknowledged setbacks in his recovery process, expressing doubt about his availability for the current season’s remaining matches.
SoccerWeb has reached out to Malacia’s representatives and Manchester United for further clarification on the matter.
Malacia’s absence has coincided with injuries to United’s primary left-back, Luke Shaw, who has made limited appearances in the Premier League this season due to a muscle injury. To address the shortage in the left-back position, United secured Sergio Reguilon on loan from Tottenham Hotspur in September. However, Reguilon returned to Tottenham in January before joining Brentford on a temporary basis.
