Ferdinand Urges United to Keep Garnacho After Electrifying Lyon Clash

Rio Ferdinand has called on Manchester United to hold onto Alejandro Garnacho following the winger’s standout display in the dramatic Europa League win over Lyon.

United survived a rollercoaster night at Old Trafford on Thursday, narrowly edging the French side 5-4 in a pulsating quarterfinal second leg. After surrendering a 2-0 lead and falling 4-2 behind in extra time, three late goals sparked a stunning comeback to book a place in the semifinals against Athletic Club.

Despite missing a golden opportunity to make it 3-0 early in the second half, Garnacho caught the eye of Ferdinand, who praised the 20-year-old’s raw talent and urged the club to stay patient with his development.

“When there’s space to run into, Alejandro Garnacho can be a real devastating threat,” Ferdinand said on TNT Sports. “Yes, he needs to work on that end product, but he’s still young and improving — that will come.”

Ferdinand added: “Stick with him. I believe Manchester United should stick with him.”

Garnacho, who was subbed off after 100 minutes for Christian Eriksen, has contributed 10 goals and 9 assists in 50 appearances this season across all competitions. His pace and flair have made him a regular feature under Ruben Amorim, despite interest from clubs like Chelsea and Napoli during the January transfer window.

After the midweek Europa League heroics, United shift their focus back to the Premier League, with a home fixture against Wolves set for Sunday afternoon.
