Real Betis have reportedly submitted an improved offer to secure Manchester United winger Antony, making the Brazilian their “priority target” for the winter transfer window.

According to Miguel Moran of Marca, negotiations between the Spanish club and United began in late December, focusing on a potential loan move for Antony in January.

The 24-year-old has struggled to adapt since his £86 million transfer from Ajax in 2022, despite reuniting with former manager Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford. Antony has found it challenging to impose himself in the physically demanding environment of English football. While his acceleration is notable, his top speed has not been as impactful in the Premier League as it was in the Eredivisie.

These difficulties have affected Antony’s confidence, rendering him largely ineffective in recent performances despite some promising moments during his debut season. Under new head coach Ruben Amorim, Antony has been deployed as both a right wing-back and a right attacking midfielder but has failed to impress in either role.

The proposed deal is a straight loan until the end of the season, with United covering a substantial portion of Antony’s salary—a condition the club anticipated entering the January window.

Antony’s long-term future at Old Trafford appears bleak, as his skillset seems ill-suited to the demands of English football.
