Scott McTominay has earned a new nickname from Napoli after scoring against Fiorentina, where former Manchester United teammate David de Gea now plays.

The 28-year-old midfielder made a move from Manchester United to Napoli in the summer of 2024 for a reported £25.7 million, according to BBC Sport. McTominay, who spent his entire career at United before the transfer, has thrived in Italy, making 18 appearances for Antonio Conte’s side and contributing five goals and three assists. His performances have been instrumental in helping Napoli, the 2022/23 Serie A champions, maintain their top spot in the league.

In a commanding 3-0 victory at the Artemio Franchi Stadium on Saturday, McTominay, along with David Neres and Romelu Lukaku, found the back of the net. Unfortunately for de Gea, he was on the losing side with Fiorentina.

Following the game, Napoli’s official X account shared a photo of McTominay celebrating his goal, captioned: “Es un elisir. Scott McTominay, mi Blue Label,” which translates to “Scotch McTominay, my Blue Label.” The nickname playfully references Blue Label whiskey, a nod to McTominay’s Scottish heritage.

However, the victory was overshadowed by a tragic event. After the match, Antonio Conte was absent from the press conference due to the passing of a young fan, Daniele, who had a close relationship with Conte and the Napoli squad. The 13-year-old had been battling illness and had recently been in contact with the team, receiving support and encouragement from players like Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa, who dedicated goals to him.

Napoli assistant coach Cristian Stellini addressed the media, stating, “We’re happy with the victory, but we’ve received a bad blow by losing a person close to all of Napoli. A little child who left us this afternoon, he was ill, we tried to give him moments of joy, he gave us so much strength and energy.
