Cole Palmer could easily have kept his winners’ medals on display at home as a daily reminder of his achievements with Manchester City’s dominant squad. Instead, he chose to send them to his parents’ house, using their absence as motivation to win more trophies in his new chapter at Chelsea.
In an interview with *GQ Magazine*, Palmer explained his unique mindset toward his growing collection of honors. “I give them to my mum. I wanted to restock. Clear them out so I can stock up again,” he said. “The feeling you get when you win… you just want it again. You don’t want to stop and never get that feeling again.”
Though he didn’t add any more winners’ medals to his collection last season, Palmer made significant strides. He secured a Carabao Cup medal and a European Under-21 Championship runner-up medal, even making an unforgettable impact in the final. Coming off the bench for England, he scored a stunning equalizer against Spain.
Reflecting on that moment, Palmer said, “It all happened so fast. Obviously, I’ve watched it all back… but it’s one of those things that happened so fast you don’t really remember it.”
Last year, Palmer’s former side, Manchester City, continued their domestic dominance, claiming a fourth consecutive Premier League title and besting his new club, Chelsea, en route to the FA Cup final. His decision to move to Chelsea initially raised eyebrows given the contrasting fortunes of the two clubs, but Palmer remains confident in his choice.
Discussing his departure from City, he said, “I just knew I wasn’t going to play as much as I wanted to. Even when I was going to England [camps] with younger age groups, you had players there who were playing in the league every week. And you’re looking around thinking, I can play in the league.”
Palmer’s belief in his abilities has been justified this season. The 21-year-old has hit the ground running at Chelsea, amassing seven goals and five assists in 11 Premier League appearances. His exceptional start has silenced doubts and proved his decision to seek regular football was the right one.
