Manchester United fans are thrilled by Tyrell Malacia’s return to the pitch.
After a final appearance in May 2023, Malacia made his long-anticipated comeback on Tuesday night, playing for United’s U21s. The young team faced Huddersfield Town in the EFL Trophy at John Smith’s Stadium, with Malacia reclaiming his role at left-back.
The 25-year-old Dutch defender has been sidelined for over a year due to a serious knee injury, but he finally marked his return against Huddersfield. During the first half, United supporters expressed excitement over his performance.
One fan posted, “Tyrell Malacia looked sharp in his first half back from injury!” Another wrote, “Malacia just made a superb challenge in midfield – really clean contact to win the ball. He’s looked sharp considering it’s his first game in 517 days.”
Another fan added, “Malacia looks very comfortable for someone who’s been out so long,” while others chimed in with encouragement, saying, “I know Tyrell Malacia is going to cook for us this season,” and, “Let Malacia cook.”

Malacia’s return ended at halftime, with Harry Amass stepping in for the second half. Journalist Steve Railston confirmed, “Tyrell Malacia is coming off at half-time and the expectation is he’ll be replaced by Harry Amass.”
Meanwhile, United are beginning a new chapter under manager Ruben Amorim, who recently took over after Erik ten Hag’s departure. Amorim acknowledged the challenges ahead, saying, “I feel ready for this new challenge… I know it’s going to be very different and difficult.” His debut match will see United face Ipswich Town in the Premier League next weekend.
