Reports suggest that Manchester City and Real Madrid may consider a sensational swap deal involving Erling Haaland and Rodrygo during the upcoming summer transfer window.
Haaland has been in incredible form, netting 11 goals in 10 matches this season, helping City to a strong start in the Premier League. However, the club is currently navigating uncertainty as they face 115 charges related to alleged financial fair play breaches, which could lead to severe penalties, including points deductions or even relegation. This has fueled speculation about the future of manager Pep Guardiola and several key players, Haaland included.
The Norwegian striker, who has already won two Premier League titles, an FA Cup, and a Champions League since arriving in England, has been linked to other clubs amid the ongoing investigations. Reports from Spain now indicate that Real Madrid are preparing a €200 million (£168 million) bid for Haaland, spurred by potential exits of Rodrygo and Vinicius Junior from the Bernabeu.
Haaland is reportedly intrigued by the idea of joining Real Madrid, a club with a rich history and immense ambition. Manchester City’s interest in Rodrygo could further facilitate the deal, with the club allegedly preparing a €150 million (£127 million) bid for the Brazilian forward. Rodrygo has emerged as a key target for Guardiola, who may be preparing for Haaland’s possible departure, though Real Madrid are reportedly reluctant to part with him.
A Haaland transfer could open the door for Rodrygo to move to Manchester City as part of the deal, should Real Madrid make a formal offer. When questioned earlier this year about Haaland potentially leaving for Madrid, Guardiola dismissed the rumors, stating, “If someone wants Erling, it’s simple—call Man City and ask.”
When asked if he hoped Haaland would stay at the club long-term, Guardiola added, “Do you think we don’t want Erling to stay here for a decade?”
