Manchester City teenager Jahmai Simpson-Pusey has been named in the first-team squad for Wednesday’s Carabao Cup clash against Tottenham Hotspur.

The young defender, who captained City to an FA Youth Cup victory last season, was part of City’s pre-season tour in the USA but has yet to make his competitive senior debut. With six senior players sidelined due to injuries, Pep Guardiola is turning to youth options, and *Manchester World* understands Simpson-Pusey is in the matchday squad for the game at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Guardiola hinted last week that youth players might be called upon for the Carabao Cup fixture but noted his caution on Tuesday about relying too heavily on inexperienced players against top-tier opposition. “I don’t want to put too much pressure on the young players in this stage against this opponent,” Guardiola said. “There are some [youth players], but we’re playing against Spurs.
