Thomas Tuchel was heavily linked to the role before taking the England manager’s job, which removed him from consideration if Ten Hag were to be replaced.

Following a lackluster 1-1 draw with Fenerbahçe on Thursday, speculation around Ten Hag’s position has intensified. The *Daily Mail* now reports that United has held discreet meetings with four managerial candidates.

According to the report, United recently contacted former Barcelona manager Xavi. A four-man delegation led by Chief Executive Omar Berrada met with the 44-year-old Spaniard ten days ago, marking their second conversation in recent months. Xavi, who guided Barcelona to a La Liga title in the 2022-23 season, has been without a club since leaving Barcelona last season.

Brentford’s Thomas Frank is also a favored candidate, having reportedly been in talks with United during the summer, along with Tuchel, Kieran McKenna, and Marco Silva.

Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim is another name under consideration. Previously linked to jobs at Liverpool v band West Ham, the 39-year-old has remained in Lisbon.

Former Borussia Dortmund manager Edin Terzic, who left Dortmund after their Champions League final loss to Real Madrid, is also seen as a potential target.
