Hugo Viana reportedly wants Manchester City to pursue the highly-rated Sporting CP defensive duo, Ousmane Diomande and Goncalo Inacio, who are also on Real Madrid’s radar.
According to *Defensa Central*, the incoming City sporting director is pushing for the club to sign Diomande and Inacio. Both players have attracted interest from major European clubs, including Real Madrid, who view them as potential alternatives to Arsenal’s William Saliba.
Ousmane Diomande has quickly emerged as a top talent since joining Sporting CP from FC Midtjylland in January 2023. The 20-year-old Ivorian defender has become one of the most sought-after centre-backs, with his performances catching the eye of top clubs. His partner at the back, Goncalo Inacio, has also been impressive, having made nearly 200 appearances for Sporting and contributing 16 goals and 11 assists. The Portuguese international’s steady development has made him another top defensive prospect.
Both players have become regulars for their national teams and are now attracting attention from Manchester City and Real Madrid. Viana, who played a key role in Diomande’s move to Sporting CP, is eager to bring the duo to City, where he will take over as sporting director next year. His familiarity with both defenders makes them a natural target for the Premier League champions.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid remains focused on signing William Saliba but are keeping Diomande and Inacio in mind as alternatives, given Saliba’s desire to stay at Arsenal. However, with Hugo Viana leading City’s interest in the Sporting CP defenders, Real Madrid may face stiff competition in securing their signatures.
