Manchester City officials are reportedly preparing a move to sign one of Serie A’s top defensive midfielders, according to recent reports.

Following a serious knee injury to Rodri that has sidelined the Spaniard for the rest of the season, Pep Guardiola and his team are working to find a replacement. The defensive midfield position is crucial for Manchester City’s ambitions, as they aim to maintain their top-tier success and compete for major honors this season.

In recent matches, Guardiola has experimented with different players, such as Mateo Kovacic and Ilkay Gundogan, while using Rico Lewis and Manuel Akanji in more advanced roles. However, with concerns about the team’s lack of summer reinforcements, the club may turn to the January transfer window to strengthen the midfield.

According to Pete O’Rourke from Football Insider, Manchester City are laying the groundwork to sign Atalanta midfielder Éderson as a potential replacement for Rodri. Éderson, a Brazilian midfielder, has attracted interest from several clubs, including Manchester City’s Premier League rivals Liverpool during the recent transfer window.

Éderson has made 10 appearances for Atalanta this season, scoring one goal and providing three assists. Since joining from US Salernitana 1919 in July 2022, he has played 100 matches for the Serie A side, scoring nine goals and providing four assists.

Before his move to Italy, Éderson began his career at Desportivo Brasil and went on to play for Cruzeiro, Corinthians, and Fortaleza, where he made over 100 appearances and scored seven goals before moving to European football in 2022.
