Manchester United supporters believe a decision Erik ten Hag made during the 3-3 draw against Porto is a sign that he’s “waiting to be sacked.”

Following the crushing 3-0 defeat to Spurs at Old Trafford, United started brightly at the Estadio do Dragao. Marcus Rashford opened the scoring with a brilliant solo effort just seven minutes in, and Rasmus Hojlund doubled the lead in the 20th minute during his first start of the season. Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa was at fault for both goals, but United appeared to be in control.

However, things quickly unraveled. Pepe pulled one back, and Samu Omorodion equalized with a header from another cross that United failed to deal with. Early in the second half, Omorodion scored again to complete the turnaround and put Porto 3-2 ahead. The 20-year-old former Atletico Madrid striker bullied Lisandro Martinez and Matthijs de Ligt all night, leaving United’s new-look center-back duo heavily criticized.

In response, Ten Hag made a controversial decision in the 77th minute, subbing off both Martinez and De Ligt for Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans, which sparked a wave of disbelief from fans.

Despite the criticism, Maguire managed to score a stoppage-time equalizer, possibly saving Ten Hag’s job for the moment. United, down to 10 men after Bruno Fernandes was sent off for the second consecutive game, now face a challenging trip to Aston Villa on Sunday.
