Manchester United fans have been left “disgusted” by one of their own players after new footage surfaced from their 3-0 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur.
United suffered another heavy loss at Old Trafford under Erik ten Hag on Sunday, with goals from Brennan Johnson, Dejan Kulusevski, and Dominic Solanke. To make matters worse, the Red Devils played the entire second half with 10 men after captain Bruno Fernandes was sent off for a foul on James Maddison.
Fans were particularly outraged by the first goal United conceded, which mirrored a similar breakdown from their recent 1-1 draw against FC Twente in the Europa League. During the build-up to Johnson’s goal, Spurs defender Micky van de Ven made a driving run through the midfield.
As Johnson approached the penalty area, he was initially marked by United’s left-back, Diogo Dalot. However, despite tracking Johnson closely, Dalot slowed down upon reaching the 18-yard box, allowing Johnson an unchallenged tap-in past goalkeeper Andre Onana.
The footage of Dalot’s lack of urgency sparked fury among United supporters on social media.
One fan wrote on Twitter: “I love you Dalot, but this is unacceptable. He can see his man, and he has the pace to close him down easily. So what was he doing here?”
Another added: “I need an explanation from Dalot. If my 10-year-old didn’t follow his runner, I’d be concerned about him.”
A third fan compared Dalot’s defending to Bayern Munich’s Noussair Mazraoui: “Mazraoui keeps checking the man behind him, but Dalot lets his runner go free. That could’ve been prevented.”
Another fan expressed disbelief: “For someone as fast as Dalot, this is unbelievable. He can see Johnson and knows the cross is coming in. I don’t understand what he’s doing.”
A fifth fan vented: “This is blatant. I knew Dalot was at fault, but seeing the full clip is just disgusting.”
