Barcelona wonderkid Lamine Yamal has revealed the Premier League star he’d most like to play alongside in the future.
Yamal, 17, had a fantastic summer, helping Spain secure victory at Euro 2024 in Germany, and continues to shine with his boyhood club, Barcelona. With a bright career ahead, his response to a recent question about his dream teammate came as a surprise to many.
When asked by Spanish radio station Radioestadio Noche (via City_Chief) which player he’d love to team up with, Yamal named Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne.
Naturally, Manchester City fans were thrilled by the idea of the two stars potentially playing together. De Bruyne has been instrumental in setting up goals for Erling Haaland, and fans took to social media to speculate on a future partnership with Yamal.
One fan on X (formerly Twitter) wrote: “KDB and Yamal passing to Haaland—my brother will get hat-tricks every match.” Another added: “KDB with Yamal, Pedri, Raphinha, and Haaland would be unstoppable.”
A third fan urged: “Come to City now! Foden can play centrally, and with KDB, we’re set.” A fourth joked: “Bring him to City and send Nunes to Barca, since they want him.”
While City fans dream of such a move, Yamal is currently tied to Barcelona with a significant contract extension signed in October 2023, keeping him at the club until at least 2026. His release clause stands at an enormous €1 billion ($1.05bn), making a transfer highly unlikely for now.
Despite the speculation, Yamal remains grounded. Former Barcelona manager Xavi praised the young talent, saying: “He’s very calm and mature for his age. He’s responsible, humble, and aware of the situation he’s in. He’s a player that could define an era at Barcelona.”
As Yamal continues to develop, fans can only imagine what the future might hold for this extraordinary talent.
