Mason Greenwood has reportedly made a decision about his international future after joining Marseille, according to a recent report.

The 22-year-old forward completed a permanent move from Manchester United earlier this summer and made an immediate impact by scoring twice on his Ligue 1 debut for Marseille, now managed by former Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi.

Greenwood’s only appearance for the England senior team came in September 2020, when he came on as a late substitute in a Nations League victory over Iceland. However, following that match, Greenwood and fellow England player Phil Foden were sent home for breaching Covid-19 regulations.

Since then, Greenwood has not been selected for the England squad. His absence from national team consideration was further influenced by his January 2022 arrest on charges of attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behavior, and assault causing actual bodily harm. Although the charges were brought in October 2022, they were discontinued by the CPS in February 2023.

Greenwood, who is of Jamaican descent, remains eligible to represent Jamaica under FIFA regulations, which allow players to switch national teams if they have fewer than four competitive appearances before turning 21.

Jamaica recently appointed former Manchester United assistant coach Steve McClaren as their new manager. In his introductory press conference, McClaren mentioned the possibility of calling up Greenwood, saying, “I met Mason and we had a little conversation. I want to go and meet everyone when I get back and find out whether they actually want to come here and play for Jamaica. Again, it’s the commitment. I will be making sure that we have a conversation with all the [eligible] players. We have a list.”

According to *The Sun*, Greenwood has now decided to switch his international allegiance to Jamaica. The report claims that Jamaica has already contacted the English FA with a formal request to finalize the switch.

Jamaica has not qualified for the World Cup since 1998, but with the expansion to a 48-team tournament in 2026, held in the USA, Mexico, and Canada, their chances of qualification have improved. McClaren, who signed a two-year contract with Jamaica earlier this month, will be tasked with leading the Reggae Boyz to their first World Cup appearance under his management.
