Manchester United have provided a rare update on defender Tyrell Malacia ahead of the 2024/25 season.
With the new campaign fast approaching, United players who weren’t involved in Euro 2024 and the 2024 Copa America are starting to report for pre-season training.
This week, Mason Mount, Marcus Rashford, Casemiro, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and Jadon Sancho were all pictured at the club’s Carrington training base.
Fans grew concerned after noticing the absence of Dutch defender Malacia in the released pictures.
Malacia, Erik ten Hag’s first signing as United boss, has been recovering from a long-term injury. He underwent knee surgery in the summer of 2023 and has not featured for the Red Devils since.
However, on Sunday morning, United shared a rare update on Malacia as pictures of him training were released.
On their official website, United wrote: “There was encouraging news from Carrington on Friday after Manchester United defender Tyrell Malacia progressed his fitness programme.
“Young left-back Malacia returned to base earlier this week, after working hard throughout his summer break. Tyrell has this week been pictured training individually on the grass under the guidance of medical staff.”
The statement continued: “The Netherlands international joined United from Feyenoord in 2022 and has made 39 appearances so far. He is doing everything he can to regain full fitness.”
Ahead of the new season, it was confirmed that United have added Rene Hake and Ruud van Nistelrooy to Ten Hag’s backroom staff.
Ten Hag said: “We want to go forward and we are so pleased to get Ruud van Nistelrooy and Rene Hake in, to bring some new dynamic, to bring some new initiative and innovation.”
United are set to face Rosenborg, Rangers, Arsenal, Real Betis, and Liverpool before kicking off their season with the FA Community Shield against Manchester City on August 10.
