Richard Keys has claimed Jose Mourinho used Paul Pogba to get sacked by Manchester United.Back in 2016, Mourinho was appointed manager of the Red Devils, replacing Louis van Gaal.During his time as United boss, Mourinho led the team to the League Cup and the Europa League. The team also finished second in the Premier League in his second season in charge.

In the 18/19 season, things began to unravel for Mourinho after a poor start to the campaign.After a 3-1 defeat by Liverpool at Anfield, the Portuguese was sacked by the club.Writing about Mourinho’s time as United boss in his blog, Keys claimed the ‘Special One’ wanted to get sacked and therefore used Pogba to achieve his goal.He wrote: “He once told me he knew he’d be sacked at United for leaving Pogba out of three consecutive games – at a time when the Frenchman’s stock was at its highest. All planned.

“And it worked perfectly. He wanted the sack. He got it.”Recently, Mourinho has been linked with a sensational return to Old Trafford, something Keys isn’t too sure about.

He continued: “Never mind that he went on to say that his biggest regret at Old Trafford wasn’t that he should have left at the end of the first season – but taking the job in the first place. How does that sit with those suggesting he’s got ‘unfinished business’ at United?”

Keys believed that another spell at Chelsea could be the way forward for Mourinho, who was sacked by Italian Serie A side AS Roma this season.“What’s the fix (to Chelsea’s problems)? Mourinho might just be, although I still think it’s more likely that he’ll turn up at Newcastle,” Keys said.“He’s nowhere near finished. Chelsea fans would love to see him back. No matter where he’s been and what he’s done – Chelsea is still home for Mourinho.”
