Richard Keys has claimed Jose Mourinho used Paul Pogba to get sacked by Manchester United.Back in 2016, Mourinho was appointed manager of the Red Devils, replacing Louis van Gaal.During his time as United boss, Mourinho led the team to the League Cup and the Europa League. The team also finished second in the Premier League in his second season in charge.
In the 18/19 season, things began to unravel for Mourinho after a poor start to the campaign. After a 3-1 defeat by Liverpool at Anfield, the Portuguese was sacked by the club.Writing about Mourinhoās time as United boss in his blog, Keys claimed the āSpecial Oneā wanted to get sacked and therefore used Pogba to achieve his goal.He wrote: āHe once told me he knew heād be sacked at United for leaving Pogba out of three consecutive games – at a time when the Frenchmanās stock was at its highest. All planned.
āAnd it worked perfectly. He wanted the sack. He got it.āRecently, Mourinho has been linked with a sensational return to Old Trafford, something Keys isnāt too sure about.
He continued: āNever mind that he went on to say that his biggest regret at Old Trafford wasnāt that he should have left at the end of the first season – but taking the job in the first place. How does that sit with those suggesting heās got āunfinished businessā at United?ā
Keys believed that another spell at Chelsea could be the way forward for Mourinho, who was sacked by Italian Serie A side AS Roma this season.āWhatās the fix (to Chelsea’s problems)? Mourinho might just be, although I still think itās more likely that heāll turn up at Newcastle,ā Keys said.āHeās nowhere near finished. Chelsea fans would love to see him back. No matter where heās been and what heās done – Chelsea is still home for Mourinho.ā
