Ten Hag would soon played down reports of unrest in the dressing room ahead of their Premier League clash against Chelsea, as the club banned a string of high-profile journalists from his pre-match press conference.And on Wednesday night, his side proved the doubters wrong with a hard-fought 2-1 win against Chelsea.
A brace from Scott McTominay sealed a crucial three points for the Dutch manager as he continues to bat away rumours of unrest.And after the full-time whistle, United midfielder Sofyan Amrabat made his feelings clear on the ongoing speculation surrounding Ten Hag.
The 27-year-old midfielder, who joined the Reds from Fiorentina in the summer on a season-long loan with an option to buy, enjoyed arguably his best performance in a United shirt on Wednesday night.He not only recorded a 92 per cent pass accuracy against Mauricio Pochettino’s side but won every tackle and made 11 ball recoveries, more than any other player.
Soon, he would give his thoughts on Ten Hag in his post-match interview with beiN Sports, saying “we are all behind him” as rumours continue to swirl.
“He is a fantastic coach,” Amrabat said. “Of course, I worked with him several years ago [at Dutch side Utrecht] and already in that moment he was a fantastic manager.”But now, he’s one of the best in the world. He’s more experienced. He’s done a fantastic job everywhere he went. He’s a fantastic coach and we are all behind him.”Amrabat wasn’t the only one player to publicly back their manager. Scott McTominay, who is United’s top goalscorer in the league with five goals, voiced his thoughts at full-time.
When asked what the key behind their mentality was throughout Wednesday’s game, the Scotland international told Amazon Prime: “The manager to be honest with you.“The way that we’ve approached the game, a lot of light training sessions to keep the energy, to keep fresh and going for the next game because they’re coming really thick and fast.”
