According to rumours, Manchester United has decided on Wout Weghorst as their striker.
Burnley’s Weghorst spent the first season on loan at Besiktas in Turkey, but the arrangement was terminated in January. The two parties split a £3 million transfer fee to make Weghorst’s move to United possible.
Following the mutual termination of Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract, Weghorst essentially replaced him.
The 6-foot-6 frontman, who has made 26 appearances across all leagues, captured his first professional trophy at Wembley in February as United defeated Newcastle to win the Carabao Cup.
Although many supporters believe he is not good enough to lead the line, he has only scored twice for the Red Devils and is goalless in the Premier League.
And it seems that the club has the same opinion. According to Samuel Luckhurst of the Manchester Evening News, United only sees Weghorst as a temporary solution and do not have any plans to keep him after the season.
United is under no obligation to purchase Weghorst, who is still under contract with Burnley, who made their Premier League debut after an impressive season in the Championship under Vincent Kompany. After joining the Clarets for £12 million from Wolfsburg, he played 20 games and scored twice. In light of Tottenham’s difficult situation, United are in desperate need of a new number nine this summer and have their sights set squarely on Kane.
Although Daniel Levy has shown to be a tough negotiator, United does have a list of potential replacements in mind, including Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, whose 27th goal of the season gave the Naples team its first Serie A championship in 33 years.
They are also keeping an eye on Mohammed Kudus, a former Ajax player for Erik ten Hag, Randal Kolo Muani of France and Eintracht Frankfurt, Rasmus Hojlund of Atalanta, and Goncalo Ramos of Benfica.
United lost 1-0 against Brighton on Thursday, falling to fourth place in the Premier League.
